On Your Path of Game Creation · 1489 days ago

Study and listen to the greats from our industry, but don’t let their wisdom dictate what you do.

Look at the path they followed but realize that is a single path showing you a way, you must find your own way outside of that path.

Make something from your heart. If it is similar to other games, so what! That’s great as long as you are putting your all into it and not pinning yourself up inside the restrictions of best practices in the industry.

There is something that indie games can really have: The blood, sweat, love and entire focused attention of a single person. Don’t hold back anything, you are already taking a huge risk setting out on this journey; do what you and only you envision for your game.

You don’t have to read books to find the right way.

You don’t have to keep up on the latest gaming news.

You don’t need the permission of your colleagues and friends to make decisions.

All you have to do is make the games you’re dreaming of making.

There are ideas in your head that only you have, flavors of genres only you can make.

Keep focused, be mindful, and make progress towards your goal, not anyone else’s.
